Polar Plunge, Shirts to help raise funds for Arkansas Special Olympics

The 2018 Polar Plunge will be held this Saturday, February 24th, at Lake Wilhelmina, at 1:00 p.m. This event raises funds for Arkansas Special Olympics, and this year, this funding is as important as ever. Three Polk County Special Olympics athletes and one coach are part of Team Arkansas, which is competing in the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games, which will place this July in Seattle, Washington. The local athletes are Mena High School students Maddie Fletcher and Jesse Ezell, and PCDC member Krista Carstens. MHS Independent Living Teacher Elizabeth Thompkins will serve as a coach on Team Arkansas.

Mrs. Thompkins is selling Chicken Out shirts in her classroom this week in preparations for this Saturday’s Polar Plunge. The shirts are $25.00, the proceeds will go toward the Arkansas Special Olympics. There are also two other shirt fundraisers that will go until the middle of March, to help support Arkansas Special Olympics and our local athletes who are heading to Seattle to compete this summer.
