ACT-ASPIRE TESTING IS APRIL 12th-15th @ HOLLY HARSHMAN ELEMENTARY!
Parent Tips: How to Help Your Child
Prepare for HHE-ACT Aspire Testing
On Test Day
Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a
healthy breakfast
Many teachers report that students who don't do well on tests haven't gotten enough
sleep, and haven't eaten breakfast on the morning of the test. Doing both of these
things will ensure that your child is working at full capacity.
Remain positive
Staying calm will help your child stay calm. If she gets nervous about the test or is
likely to experience anxiety during the test, help her practice some relaxation
techniques that she can try once she's taking the test.

FASTCATS IS BACK !!!!

In this challenging and pandemic year, I believe we have seen just how important the arts are in our world. Music is a big part of how we survive in difficulty, celebrate in good times, bond with others, and create memories. Music can be our escape or how we connect with our own emotions. I am thankful that theatre incorporates music in so many ways. Students need to see how music defines a scene, a character, a feeling, or changes the atmosphere in a production. -JESSICA KROPP-

On Friday 2/19 the Arkansas Activities Association made a decision to move the Regional and State Basketball Tournaments back one week. The Mena Ladycats will play at 6:00pm on Thursday 2/25 against the winner of the Arkadelphia/Fountain Lake game at the Union Bank Center.
GO LADYCATS!

The Arkansas Activities Association will be moving the Regional Basketball Tournaments, the State Basketball Tournaments, and the State Basketball Finals back one week to allow conferences to finish their regular seasons and tournaments. Due to the amount of COVID-19 cancellations during the regular season, a conference tournament may be needed for correct seeding into the regional and state tournaments. Schools and conferences will need to check the updated deadlines for submitting their final seeds to the AAA. The AAA is committed to finding the most equitable solution when dealing with COVID-19 related no-contest and with unprecedented weather conditions that prevent the timely completion of the season.

Regional Tournament Dates:
1A, 2A, 3A, & 4A - March 3-6
State Tournament Dates:

Dear Parent,
We have purchased a program (IXL) for students to practice and build academic skills while they are at school or at home. We want to encourage you to have your student use this tool to practice at home.
Here are some benefits and a link.
▪ Web-based (Internet access required) allowing the student access on any device. https://www.ixl.com/signin/menamiddle
▪ Learning program offering unlimited math, language arts, science, and social studies practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to Arkansas Standards.
▪ Students learn at their own pace. It adapts and adjusts to the
student’s demonstrated understanding of the material.
▪ All results are saved to monitor the students’ progress on Analytics, which teachers can access to see student strengths.
If your student is home for any reason, sick, quarantined, blended, etc., please support your child’s success by making certain they use this website for learning, skill improvement. This will also help them prepare for their ACT Aspire Test, which is the state test required for all students to take in April.
Our goal is the success of all students – prepared to advance to next year, High School, college, and career. When “our” students obtain a high-wage job, our community reaps the benefits. It is in every person’s best interest for our students to be successful. We cannot reach these goals without your assistance.

The Mena Ladycats & Bearcats host Fountain Lake on Friday 12/11/20 at the Union Bank Center.

As part of a coordinated response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in partnership with the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas has developed a Parent/Guardian Survey for soliciting family input on what is working now and what may be considered for the future.
We encourage you to share the survey link with your families and ask them to complete the survey before November 20th. A Spanish version of the survey is available here.
The survey seeks to involve families in an organized, ongoing and timely way in planning, review, and improvement. The survey will provide feedback regarding:
* family concerns
* how families are making decisions
* family awareness of options and resources available
* family considerations for the future
The intention of this survey is not to identify individual school or district responses, but rather to establish an understanding of the state as a whole. The information will be aggregated by region only; therefore, families will be asked to identify the region of the state in which they live in order to understand the distribution of the survey without specifically identifying any district or school by name.
OEP will be sharing results at the December State Board meeting.
