Fisher Neufeld is the 2019 recipient of the Governor's Award for Musical Excellence. Fisher is a third year choir student. He earned all region choir honors for two years and qualified to audition for all state choir both years. He has been in band for seven years. Fisher earned all region honors on trombone one year and all region jazz band honors on piano for 5 years. He has been an Arkansas All State Jazz Band member for the past 3 consecutive years. He earned the first chair position on piano in the All State Jazz Band in 2019. Fisher studied piano privately for seven years with Warren David and Judy Kropp. Fisher is the son of Jeff and Jerusha Neufeld.
The Governor's Award for Musical Excellence is presented to an outstanding high school senior in the spring semester of each school year. At the request of the Governor, the award medallion can be worn at the graduation ceremony. The award is given with the goal of rewarding and recognizing high school seniors for their commitment to excellence in music, regardless of school size or location. It is also the intent of the award foundation to provide motivation for younger students to continue their course of musical instruction. The Governor's Award for Musical Excellence recipient is chosen based on their demonstration of musicianship, teamwork, dedication, character, and attitude.
