Mr. Weston met on Thursday, February 22nd with city and county law officials in regards to a proposal for additional safety and security on the four Mena campuses. Today he presented his request before the City Council at a special called meeting. He requested additional officers to provide security at each of the four campuses. Mr. Weston stated, "This is an effort to reassure everyone that the Board of Education and the administration of Mena Public Schools is serious about the daily safety and security of our students, staff, and all who enter a school building. Through cooperation and collaboration with the Mena City Police, Polk County Sheriff's Department, City Hall, Mayor McKee, and Mena City Council, we feel we will be able to provide an increased level of security in each of our four school buildings. We certainly hope that this assures the patrons and community of Mena Public Schools that the safety and security of all of those in attendance as well as those involved in the daily operation of our school district is of the utmost importance."
