Monday, September 13th Mena Volleyball played on the road at Booneville. The 7th grade Ladycats split their match. Mena Jr. JV won 2-1 by a score of 21-25, 25-23 & 15-8. The Jr. High Varsity won 2-0 by a score of 25-21 & 25-20. The Mena Sr. girls beat Booneville 3-0 by a score of 25-22, 25-17 & 26-24. Mena is back in action on Tuesday when they host Magnolia.

Mena Coaches have selected # 61, Jett Baber, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Player of the Game vs. Hot Springs Jett is a Senior and starts both ways for the Bearcats this season, playing at Center and Defensive Tackle. Jett had 6 tackles and one QB sack on defense and graded out at over 90% at Center for the night. He is the son of Nicholas and Jennifer Baber and the grandson of Ellen Baber. Jett’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, and hanging out with his girlfriend, Sara Dozier. After high school, Jett plans to attend UA Rich Mountain and pursue a degree in the medical field, eventually becoming a Physical Therapist or a Sports Medicine Trainer. Jett and the Bearcats will try to redeem their lost last week, this Friday night, when they will host the undefeated, Booneville Bearcats. Mena Jr. Volleyball played in a tournament at Paris on Saturday. The Ladycats were 3-0 in pool play but lost 2-1 in the semi-finals of the gold bracket. The girls will be back in action on Monday at Booneville.

Mena Sr. Football played their first road game of the season on Friday & also lost their first game of the year. Hot Springs defeated the Bearcats 34-0. Thursday, September 9th Mena Sr. Volleyball defeated Camden Fairview 3-0 by a score of 25-9 25-7 & 25-4 Mena Jr. Volleyball defeated Camden Fairview 2-0. Bearcat 7th Grade Football defeated Clarksville 14-6. Bearcat Jr. Football defeated Clarksville 28-16. Mena Golf finished 2nd at the Malvern Country Club with a team score of 145. Cooper Plunket-47, Evan Leonard-49 & Alex Rocha-49.

Several Mena Bearcats are among the statistical leaders this season according to Max Preps. Austin Rose is 3rd in the state in passing. Rose has completed almost 70% of his passes for 558 yards in the first two games. Caleb Peters is 7th in the state n receiving. Peters has 14 catches for 203 yards thru two games. Jarrett Burger is 13th in the state in tackles. Burger has a total of 21 tackles in the first two games. Mena Coaches select #33, Jayden Felix, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Player of the Week vs. Clarksville. Jayden is a Junior running back / linebacker for the Bearcats. He had 1 receiving touchdown and 1 rushing touchdown with over 100 all- purpose yards on offense and 2 tackles for loss, defensively. His efforts helped lead the Bearcats to a comfortable 38-14 victory over the Panthers. Mena’s off to a great start, at 2-0 for the year! Jayden is the son of Walter and Misty Felix and is one of eight children, having 2 brothers and 5 sisters. His hobbies are primarily football, off season conditioning, and X-Box games. After graduation, Jayden hopes to continue to play football at the college level, as he pursues a degree in Accounting. This week, Mena will travel to Hot Springs to take on the Hot Springs High Trojans, who currently stand at 1-1 for the season. Mena lost a close game to the Trojans last year and Jayden and the Bearcats will be up for a little payback come Friday night. Tuesday, September 7th Mena Cross Country will compete in their first meet of the season at the Tom Stuthard Stampede in Acorn starting at 3:30pm. Jr. & Sr. Volleyball will host Malvern at the Union Bank Center beginning at 4:00pm.
