Thank you for your patience over the past week. Our staff has worked diligently to prepare our campuses and assess conditions for a safe return to school.
Unfortunately, icy conditions remain on many side roads throughout our district. Even with the use of snow routes, too many buses would be unable to safely complete their routes. In addition, several staff members are still iced in and unable to travel safely to campus. While main roads are improving, transportation and staffing limitations would prevent us from operating safely.
For the safety of our students and staff, Mena Public Schools will remain closed on Monday, February 2. We understand the challenges this creates for families, but we cannot risk a bus accident or unsafe travel conditions for students or employees.
Tomorrow’s warmer temperatures are expected to help melt remaining ice and will allow our maintenance and transportation teams additional time to address campus conditions and road access.
Please expect an update from the district regarding Tuesday’s schedule by 3:00 p.m. tomorrow.
