Our CTE students just wrapped up an incredible three-day experience with Get Real, Here’s the Deal, provided by the Polk County Extension Office!
On Friday, students were given a real-life financial scenario that included an occupation, salary, and a family to support. Using that information, they calculated their net income and began planning their budgets.
On Monday, students participated in the simulation by visiting 12 different stations where they made financial decisions and tracked their spending on a registration sheet. From housing and transportation to groceries and childcare, they experienced what it’s like to manage real-world expenses.
Today, students wrapped up the event by learning about the importance of credit scores and how interest impacts financial decisions.
This hands-on experience helped our students build valuable real-world financial skills that they will carry with them into adulthood.
A big thank you to the Polk County Extension Office and all of the community members who volunteered their time to make this event possible. Your support helps prepare our students for the future!

Students in Mrs. Wilson’s Introduction to Education and Education Technology Classes have been presenting “HIP” lessons to Coach Morris’ and Coach Gardner’s health classes at Mena High School. HIP, also known as the Health Information Project, is a peer-to-peer comprehensive health education program that aims to create a safe space for discussion of critical health topics, helps to build a sense of community, and helps 9th graders more easily acclimate to high school.Through peer-to-peer classroom sessions, HIP’s mission is to empower teens to have the information necessary to live healthy lives, while also fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive school campus. HIP addresses critical health topics such as suicide, eathing disorders, obesity, depression, diabetes, bullying and abuse. The students who have presented the lessons have improved their communication and speaking skills and have learned invaluable skills about classroom management.

Congratulations to our Second Grade Battle of the Books champions on an incredible day at the 2026 competition hosted by the DeQueen-Mena Educational Cooperative! 📚🏆 These LD readers rose to the challenge and brought home 2nd Place — what an outstanding achievement! 🎉 Their hard work and preparation truly shined, but what stands out even more is their genuine love for books and reading. These students didn’t just compete — they celebrated stories, strengthened their understanding, and grew as readers along the way. We are beyond proud of their commitment, character, and love for literacy!
