Wednesday, October 9, 2019 Lunch Today: Chicken Alfredo, Hamburger, Chicken Sandwich, Hot Dogs, MTO Boneless Wings, MTO Deli We have Gatorade, Water, Chips, Beef Jerky and Rice Krispy Treats that are available for purchase if you have money in your lunch account. Students you must get a juice and/or fruit at breakfast. Students, please remember, you have to have money in your account to buy extras. Do not get extras unless you pay for it first. Students are not to be in the hallways during Lunch A or Lunch B. The library, cafeteria, or patio are available areas during lunch. Girls can sign up for a Powder Puff Football Tournament in Ms.Hobson’s room. Each class will have a team and compete against each other on November 4th. The cost is $3 to play and all proceeds go to Relay for Life. The Sci-Fi Club meeting today has changed from the PAC to Ms Hooker’s Room, 206. Ninth grade GT students who want to participate in the Jr. High Quiz Bowl team will have practice during TEAM on Thursday at the middle school campus. The Ladycats played two varsity matches at Little Rock Mills Tuesday. Mena won the 1st match 3-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-6, 25-7. Mena also won the 2nd match 3-0 by scores of 25-8, 25-12, 25-11. The Ladycats will host Bauxite on Thursday at the UBC!

Announcements for Tuesday, October 8th If you placed campaign posters in the hallways, those need to be removed asap. From Coach Bentley: There will be no after school practice for 7th grade today. From Mrs. Smith: FCCLA members who are not in Leadership class please check your email. Upcoming Events This Week: Tonight: The MMS 6th grade Choir will present their fall concert, A World of Music, 7:00 pm in the high school auditorium. Tomorrow: The annual Fields of Faith will take place at Bearcat Stadium beginning at 5:30 pm. Thursday: The Jr High Bearcat football team will be hosting Dover at Bearcat Stadium and the Lady Cats Jr JV and Senior High volleyball teams will be hosting Bauxite at the Union Bank Center at the High School. This Friday, the EAST students will be conducting a fund raiser for our local pet shelters. There will be a Doggie Fashion Show on the front lawn of our school at 5:00 pm. If you would like to enter your dog in this event, the cost is $10. Prizes will be awarded. For more information, you can pick up a flier from the front office. The Mena Tennis Team competed in the 7-4A District Tournament in Arkadelphia on Monday. In girls doubles play McKenzie Strother & Madi Linch won their opening match 9-7. Marissa Ortiz & Stephanie Lua won their quarterfinal match 6-0/6-0 but lost in the semi-finals. Ortiz & Lua then won the 3td place match 4-6/6-3/10-4. Four 3rd place finishers out of six districts will be selected for the state tournament. They will await the state committee's bid. In boys doubles Luke Montgomery & Brendon Brown lost their opening match 2-6/1-6. Eli Cook & Wilson Hughes won their first match 6-3/6-1 before falling to the #1 seed in the semi-finals 1-6/5-7. Cook & Wilson finished 4th. In boys singles action Austin Rose won his opening match 6-4/6-0 then lost in the semi's 6-3/2-6/8-10. Will Davis won his opening match 6-0/6-0, lost in the semi's & then beat Austin Rose in the 3rd place match 7-5/6-1. Like Ortiz & Lua, Davis will await the state committees bid to the state tournament.

Mena Jr. Volleyball played at Hot Springs Lakeside Monday. The 7th grade lost 2 to 0. The JV lost 2 to 0 & the Ladycat Varsity won 2 to 1. The Jr. & Sr. High will play Bauxite on Thursday @ 4pm in the Union Bank Center. Go Ladycats!

Arkansas Rural Education Association is spotlighting the Mena School District! With an enrollment of 1737 students, Mena is in the DeQueen-Mena Coop area in Polk County and employs 229 people. Mena is proud to announce that Mr. Benny Weston, Superintendent of Mena School District, was recently presented with the 2020 Arkansas Superintendent of the Year Award. The Mena Basscats competed in the Arkansas Youth Fishing Associations tournament on Millwood Lake on Sunday October 6. The Basscats had two teams (Austin Johnston & Cason Cannon)&(Austin Rose & Evan Graves) tie for 2nd place in the high school division and one team (Brynten Rose & Cody Beck)place 4th in the junior division.

The Homecoming football game did not go as planned as Pottsville defeated the Bearcats 34-22. This years Homecoming Queen is Amy Thompson & Maid of Honor is Skylar Montgomery. Mena will play at Dover next Friday!.
