On Thursday, April 4th, 9th grade members of Mena High School's Educational Talent Search program visited the UA Rich Mountain campus. TRIO representatives Jeff Neufeld, Brandon Burk, and Kayla Davis, accompanied by Charlotte Wiles and Irvin Trejo, presented the diverse educational opportunities available to MHS students at UARM. During the visit, the Bearcats toured the new automotive service technology facility and met instructor Sam Waters. Janet VanDeest demonstrated the ambulance simulator used by EMT students and provided information about various career center programs, including Medical Professions, Pharmacy Externship, EMT training, Phlebotomy, Machine Tool Technology, and Welding. Additionally, students explored classrooms in the Abernathy, Spencer, and Maddox buildings before enjoying a meal at the Rack.
Afterward, the freshmen Bearcats visited the Welding facility to meet Stephen Moody before attending UARM Bucks softball and baseball games, where they were treated to snacks at the concession stand.
Mena High School values its partnership with UA Rich Mountain staff, which enables Bearcats to prepare for their NEXT right here in Mena.

The Advanced Animal Science class at MHS conducted a "fecal egg flotation" activity during our Lab today. The lab consisted of the examination of sheep fecies for the presence of internal parasite eggs. Students were able to identify one particular parasite egg present in the fecal specimen called Hoemonchus contortus or the Barberpole Worm which is a bloodsucking roundworm that can be very detrimental to small ruminants. This is a routine exam that veterinarians may do on occasion to many different species of animals. I think they enjoyed todays lab even though they were handling POOP!
