Mena Middle School Project Prevent held the 8th Grade Easter Egg Prevention Relay on Tuesday.

Mena Middle School 8th grade students ventured over to U of A Rich Mountain today to participate in the annual Ready Set Go to High School, College and Career Day. The college staff shared information on concurrent credit, financial aid, the career center and more. Students were also entertained with a campus tour a Plinko game for prizes. Thank you U of A Rich Mountain for hosting!

The Mena Regional Auxiliary recently awarded $1,000.00 scholarships to four students who are pursuing a career in the field of medicine. Mena High School senior, Caroline Cannon as well as two of our alumni, Avery Bowling and Andi Maechler were recipients. Congratulations!

Congratulations to the Mena Middle School Band on their outstanding performance at the Concert Assessment and Sight reading competition! The band received an overall excellent rating for their concert and a superior rating for their sight reading performance. The students were congratulated by Principal Todd Coogan on Thursday morning for their work and a big thank you from the band booster moms for the cake and chocolate milk!

Our 2nd cohort group has completed their time at the Arkansas Leadership Academy ! WE are so proud of these hard working teachers and are so excited about things to come! Mena Ladycat Emery Anderson competed in the Meet of Champions at University of the Ozarks on Saturday. She defeated Elizabeth Garcia-Martinez of Springdale 7-5. Way to go Emery.

Read Across America 2024 finale📚🎉 Students were challenged with a school wide reading goal of 3,000 books! The students met the reading goal by Friday and read over 6,000 books school wide: ending with a Pie In The Face Celebration! This week was filled with dress up days, book challenges , guest readers , book talks , read alouds, book competitions and so much fun! We walked away knowing we will continue to try new stories , read more books, start new book series , and most importantly grow as life long readers

The HHE third grade teams competed in the Battle of the Books at the DeQueen/ Mena Education Service Cooperative on Friday. Team A 2nd place 🥈 Team B 3rd place 🥉 WE are so proud of our kiddos!!

The Mena Middle School Project Prevent Team chose to celebrate Read Across America week by reading to the 5th grade students at Holly Harshman Elementary. The Team read Smoking Stinks!! by Kim Gosselin. After reading, team members talked about the dangers of tobacco/nicotine use as well as the many opportunities to celebrate being tobacco free waiting for them at Mena Middle School next school year. The 5th graders were invited to participate in the statewide Project Prevent "My Reason to Write" Essay Competition.

Congratulations to our Second Grade Battle of the Books team who placed FIRST PLACE at the 2024 competition at the Dequeen Mena Co-Op🎉🥇 Battle of the Books is a quiz style competition between area schools based on their knowledge of books, characters and the details from the stories they have read and studied. We are so proud of their determination, hardwork and teamwork as they represented Mena Public Schools so well in todays competition!

In celebration of National School Breakfast Week, Mena Middle School students were treated to Banana Split Parfaits, made their way.

Congratulations to MenaHigh School seniors Claire Walston, Caroline Cannon, and Mallory Farringer for being awarded the Mena/Polk County Enhancement Foundation Scholarship.
