
Last week MHS seniors Aiden, Jayden, & Nathan attended the second annual National Career Development Conference in Orlando, FL. They competed in NCA knowledge bowl, attended professional development sessions on financial awareness and entrepreneurship, and networked with industry professionals from across the country! There were over 1,000 delegates, specialists, and chaperones from across the nation in attendance. As a whole, the Arkansas delegation competed and placed in several categories. On Saturday, students were able to spend the day at Universal Studios.


A group of MHS students toured Hatfield Lumber which produces lumber and timber products for use by the construction industry. Thank you to Mark Hurst for hosting the tour.

The State Project Prevent Team was at Mena Middle School today to help our local team spread the nicotine free message. Student’s signed pledges to be nicotine free, played games and won digital cameras.

Students in Mrs. Williams’ literacy classes read with flashlights around the darkened classroom in cozy spots after finishing their daily assignments and weekly tests. The quiet setting and change in atmosphere was just the right touch to make independent reading a more ‘Novel’ -exciting -feel.

Holly Harshman Elementary students Kaielor Hastey and Ty Thacker recently attended Camp Ryla sponsored by Mena Rotary Club. They had an amazing time learning about leadership, team building, financial stewardship, and completed many physical challenges.


UA Rich Mountain Science Fair winners middle school level:
2nd place $100 prize went to Jakob Hostetler and Wyatt Head for their coding project.
Honorable mention $50 Walmart gift card went to Vaughn Vacca for his coding project.


Mena students participated in the Science Fair at UA Rich Mountain on Friday.


Mena High School students Jocelyn Hernandez, Psalm Wistrand and Hudson Vacca presented their policy proposals to Senator John Boozman with other district four students. Their original policy was intended to require Arkansas students to perform community service for high school graduation. However, as community service is now a requirement in the LEARNS Act the students choose to provide feedback to the Senator over the challenges the policy provides and solutions to those challenges.


Lauren Frost and Leilani Rose completed the Arkansas Game and Fish Fishing in the Natural State training today. This training is required for schools to participate in the grant funded program and for schools to host fishing derbies. The pair learned the most from the fish dissection portion of the training.


Mena Middle School students attended the 2023 Girls of Promise conference last week. Madison Rowe, Nevaeh Day, Jasmine Parker and Faith Tucker were accepted to attend the STEM event. They were chaperoned by Mrs. Billings.


Mena hosted the Area 14 Special Olympics on Wednesday at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. Mena students attended the opening ceremony and volunteered at the event that featured athletes from around the area.
