Attention current 10th and 11th graders - JAG Applications are now available for the 2022-23 school year for next’s year seniors and juniors. Online applications are available at karenpurvis.wixsite.com/mhsjag, enrichment google classroom, or your email. You can pick up a printed application from Karen Purvis, room 403. JAG meeting for current 10th graders interested in participating in JAG in your junior year on Wednesday, January 19 in room 403 during Enrichment.
Seniors, please check Google Classroom for information on Winter Formal. The scheduled date for Winter Formal is Saturday, February 12.
If you are interested in being considered for the yearbook staff for the 2022-2023 school year, please pick up an application in Mr. Philpot’s room 205. Completed applications must be turned back in by next Thursday, January 20, to be considered.
The FBLA Spring District Leadership Conference has been postponed to Wednesday, February 9th. FBLA will meet next Thursday, January 20th, to discuss details.
The FFA is now doing sign-ups for the spring Career Development Event competitions. CDE's include Forestry, Equine, Nursery/Landscape, Meats,Vet. Science, Livestock Judging, Food Science, Ag Mechanics, and Electricity. See Mr. Maye or Mr. Goodnight for more information.
All students who arrive at school after the first bell will need to enter through the front doors of the school. We will no longer be admitting anyone into the building through the patio doors throughout the school day.
We have returned to our pre-Covid check-out policy, as stated in the student handbook: A student may only check out if the parent or guardian comes to the office to sign the student out; the only exception is if there is a doctor or dentist appointment, the parent may call but a written verification form must be provided upon reentry.
Be sure to order your 2022 Mena High School Yearbook for its current price of $60 while you can! The final deadline to order a yearbook is January 28. See Mr. Philpot for more information on yearbook orders.
Seniors, be sure to fill out the 2022 Who’s Who ballot and the Mr and Ms Bearcat ballot that can be found on the Class of 2022 Google Classroom page. The deadline to vote is today. Results will be part of the 2022 MHS Yearbook.
TUTORING
This week we will resume the after-school library hours. Please note that this semester the library will close at 6 pm Monday - Thursday instead of 7 pm and Saturday tutoring will only be available by appointment. If you do not sign up for Saturday tutoring using the form that is emailed to you by Ms. Catlett every week there will not be a teacher available for that Saturday session.

Tuesday: Mrs. Hoyle:3:45 pm to 6 pm
Wednesday: NO TUTORING - HS Staff Meeting
Thursday: Mrs. Hoyle 3:45: to 6 pm

This is time that you can use to study, gather for a group meeting, use our new makerspace, or get help with assignments.
If you sign up for it before the end of school, snacks will be provided. Saturday tutoring must be signed up for by Friday, the google form can be found in the email sent to you from Ms. Catlett.
Math tutoring will be each morning from 7:00-7:45, and each Monday- Wednesday after school until 4:15.
Ms. Hendrix will be tutoring after school on Thursdays until 5:15.
Students, as we work toward keeping everyone healthy and safe here at Mena High School, please do not come to school with Flu like or COVID-like symptoms.
-Positive COVID cases will have to ISOLATE for 10 days before returning to school
-IF you wear a mask correctly and have been identified as a Close Contact, you will not have to quarantine.
-If not wearing a mask, and you have been identified as a Close Contact, you will have to be quarantined for 7-10 days if you have NOT been vaccinated.

The Jr. High games at Malvern on Thursday have also been cancelled.
Earlier this week the games scheduled for Saturday the 15th were cancelled. Including the 7th grade & Jr. High games against Waldron as well as the Sr. High games at Idabel.

Unfortunately we have another cancellation to report. The 7th grade & Jr. High basketball games scheduled for this Saturday against Waldron have been cancelled.


This January, take a culinary journey in the Mena High School cafeteria. We will explore globally inspired flavors the next 5 months! First up: Mediterranean inspired flavors. Our Mediterranean Grain Bowl features beef meatballs, quinoa, lentils, crumbled feta, tzatziki, topped with fresh vegetables.

I. There will be no school next Monday, January 17th
II. There will be an FFA meeting in the Ag Building tomorrow during Achieve. This meeting is for students interested in participating in the FFA Trap Shooting Team. To be eligible, you must be an FFA member and possess a Hunter’s Education Card.
III. Any boy or girl currently in 7th or 8th grade that is interested in participating in Track this semester, will meet with Coach Dover tomorrow during Achieve, in the gym.
IV. The Winter Dance scheduled for next Tuesday is cancelled due to the current Covid situation. We will reschedule the dance, once the numbers improve.

Working on those ball skills at Mena Middle School on Monday !

Last Thursday Mr. Charles Morgan announced several changes to the band schedule in the coming weeks & today he announced that the band will not be attending the 4 States Bandmaster's Clinic this week.
Those earlier changes included the cancelation of the High School Region Auditions which were rescheduled for virtual tryouts on Jan. 18th-Jan. 21. The High School & Middle School region concert clinic scheduled for Jan. 21-22 is canceled & the High School & Middle School jazz clinic schedule for Jan. 28-29 is canceled.


Monday, January 17th will be a day of professional development for teachers. This means that students will not be attending school on this date. See the complete school calendar at the link

Mena Coaches select #45, Emmi Hines, and #14, Caleb Peters, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Players of the Month for December 2021.
Emmi is a Junior, Forward, for the Lady Cats and in December, she averaged 4.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and shot 100% from the free throw
line. She was also selected to the Kameron Hale All-Tournament team at Lake Hamilton recently. Emmi is the daughter of Robbie and Sherri
Hines. After graduation, she hopes to attend college on a volleyball scholarship and study Accounting.
Caleb is a Senior, Guard, for the Bearcats and he averaged 11 points, 3 steals, and 4 assists per contest. He is the son of Brandon and Mary
Peters. Caleb enjoys playing video games when he is not involved in school sports. He plans to attend UA Rich Mountain next year and
eventually complete his Business degree at a 4 year University.
