
The Mena Senior Class will be hosting a Chili Supper Fundraiser on Tuesday, November 30th in the MHS Cafeteria in conjunction with the basketball games against Waldron. Everyone is invited & we encourage you to come out and support this worthy cause!


A big shout out to our friends at the Ten NIne Arena. They recently held a food drive for the schools backpack program. Mrs. Cox & her students were there to accept the donation at Mena High School on Thursday !!!

MHS Teacher Mr. Rodney Rowland was presented today with a National Citizenship Education Teacher Post Recognition Award, through the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. The award is in recognition for promoting citizenship education in the classroom and at school. Mr. Rowland was nominated for the award by an MHS student. Mr. Rowland is pictured here being presented the award by Mr. Eddie Cross, of the local VFW.


Mena bus drivers have reported an increase in the number of vehicles who are passing busses while red lights are flashing.
Starting this school year, Arkansas law now requires drivers to stop at least 30 feet behind a stopped school bus. This law applies to drivers in all directions. It applies to roads, streets or highways open to the general public. A driver who breaks the law can be found guilty of a misdemeanor. The proscribed punishments are a fine of $250 to $1,000 and/or up to 90 days in jail.

New Mena School Board Zones have been drawn and the board approved those new zones at their meeting on Tuesday.. According to the latest census Mena’s population now exceeds the 10% minority threshold. This means that board zones will be required in the future. In December, the two at large members from the two zones with two current board members will be determined.


The Mena Sr. Girls kicked off the basketball season on Tuesday at the Union Bank Center with a win.

Mena Bearcat Coaches select #14, Caleb Peters, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Player of the Week vs Trumann. Caleb is a Senior, Wide Receiver / Cornerback for the Bearcats. Game stats included 12 receptions for 145 yards and one TD, plus 8 tackles on Defense last Friday, in the first round of the 4A State Playoffs. Trumann however, won the contest 27-14, thus ending the Bearcats 2021 season, with a final record of 5-6.
Caleb is the son of Brandon and Mary Peters. He also plays
basketball and baseball for the Bearcats. He enjoys playing video
games when he is not busy with school activities or studying. Caleb plans to attend UA Rich Mountain next year and hopes to obtain a degree in Business Management.

Mrs. Floyds first grade has been working on writing our own informational books. Monday the authors shared what they wrote with their book buddies!


Sheli Chaney's classes at Mena Middle School participated in a book tasting on Monday. Students tried out different books to decide which they would like to read. They each read a brief part of the books and book reviews to see if it was something they would be interested in.


Mrs. Plunkett’s 2nd grade students started their unit on the Wompanaog Native Americans! They built wetu houses and learned their history in Massachusetts!

The Mena Bearcats competed again this year in the 2021 Farm Bureau River Valley All-Star Invitational 5K Cross Country Meet in Mansfield. Brody Brown, Trevin Plunkett and Cooper Plunkett represented Mena. Very proud of Cooper for placing 5th overall.


The Kindergarten class enjoyed hearing Coach Rose talk about his time in the Marine Corps on Veteran’s Day under the flags at Louise Durham. He talked about how much Veterans mean to our country and the important part they play in our freedom. Thank you Coach Rose and all Vets.
