The Mena Basscats were in action this past weekend. Austin Rose and Jarrett Burger(Sr Div), Waylon Head and Braxton Philpot(Jr Div) competed in the Arkansas Young Guns tournament Saturday on Lake Hamilton. Rose and Burger took 5th place. On Sunday the Basscats competed in the Arkansas Youth Fishing Federation Tournament held on Lake Degray. Rose and Burger placed 3rd in the High School division. The Basscats will be back in action at Lake Dardanelle on Saturday November 27th.

Mena High School English Classes were treated to the MHS Theatre Department production of "The Poe Show" in the Performing Arts Center on Friday.

Being Barry the Bearcat is a hot & tough job. But it does have it's perks. GO BARRY !!!!

Lance Spinger, Will Sheffield, Tracy Nealy, and Bill Savell, softball and baseball coaches from the University of Arkansas at RIch Mountain, spoke this morning about careers related to coaching and teaching at Mena High School. Students were invited to attend their presentation based on their "liked" career choices in Xello. Xello is the career planning software program MHS students are using to learn more about their skills, knowledge, and plans for their future careers.

Mena High School JAG students took advantage of an opportunity to mentor at Holly Harshman Elementary on Thursday.

There will be a Mena Senior Parent event planning meeting on Wednesday, November 17th at 5:30 pm in the Mena High School Library. These events include after prom & the winter formal.

The Mena Ladycat volleyball season came to an end at the 4A State Tournament on Wednesday. Brookland defeated Mena 3-2 by a score of 22-25, 25-20, 28-26, 15-25 & 14-16. Thank you Ladycats for a great season !!!

It's a wet day in Mena & that makes it a great day to practice indoors. Coach Sandifer & the Bearcat baseball team did just that Wednesday at the Southern Sports Academy. The Mena School Board approved an agreement at their August meeting for unlimited use of the facility with no long term contract.

The Mena Ladycats defeated Pottsville 3-0 in the first round of the 4A State Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday. The score was 25-17, 25-12 & 25-10. Mena will play the winner of the Brookland/Farmington game on Wednesday at 4pm. The games are being played at Shiloh in Springdale.

Bearcat Coaches have selected # 66, Bobby Wallis, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Player of the Game vs Dardanelle. Bobby is a Senior this season for the Bearcats and hardly ever leaves the field, playing both Defensive End and Offensive Tackle, plus all specialty teams for the Bearcats. Bobby had 3 tackles including one spectacular TD saving tackle Friday night and he graded out at 93% from the offensive line vs the Sand Lizards. Mena lost the high scoring contest 56-42. Bobby is the son of Robert Wallis and Stephanie and Rick Brown. Bobby also plays basketball, soccer, and is on the track team for the Bearcats. His hobbies include hunting, hanging out with friends, and he is really into photography. He takes pictures for the Junior High sports programs when he can. After High School, Bobby plans to attend AR Tech University and get a coaching degree. This week, Bobby and the Bearcats travel to face a tough Lamar Warrior team, who has only suffered 1 loss all season. Playoff seeding is dependent upon the outcome of this Friday’s game. The Mena senior boys competed in the Tom Stuthard Top 25 Cross Country Meet on Wednesday at the Mena LIons Club Course. TRE MCMELLON led the Bearcats with a 3rd place finish. TREVIN PLUNKETT was right behin in 4th, BRODY BROWN finished 8th, COOPER PLUNKETT was 9th & CONNOR EFIRD finished 14th.. 3 Questions With…. MHS Senior Bethany Settle Q: What has been your favorite thing from this year so far and why? A: My favorite thing from this year so far has definitely been getting to make new memories with friends that I know will go different ways than me once we graduate. Q: If you had an entrance song when you entered school what would it be and why? A: Any fun and upbeat song, because I like to try and make people's days better if I can. Q: What is something you enjoy doing in your free time, why and when did you get into doing it? A: Something I enjoy doing in my free time would be reading. I like it because it helps me escape to a different world. I got into it when I was little and lost contact with it for a while but got back into it a few years ago.

The Club Expo for 11th & 12th grades was held today in the Union Bank Center at Mena High School. Students were given the opportunity to explore & learn about the various clubs they can join at MHS. 9th & 10th grades attended the Club Expo on Wednesday.

Mena High School students who saved Nurse Practitioner in Xello as a career option were able to speak to Mrs. Debbie Fairless on Friday. This was a great opportunity for those students to learn about the career path as well as the positives & negatives of Nurse Practitioner as an occupation. Next Friday coaches from U.A. Rich Mountain will be on campus to speak to students interested in coaching as a career.

Ms. Kropp & her theatre group from Mena High School visited the 5th graders at Holly Harshman Elementary on Friday & performed a skit on bullying.
