Announcements for Monday, September 21st
From Mr. McCormick: Any 8th grader that is interested in joining FFA this year can come by his classroom for more information
From Mrs. Breedlove: There will be no 7th grade Cheerleader practice after school today.
Several of you are still being dropped off at the front entrance of the school. THIS IS NOT ALLOWED. If you are a car rider, you must be dropped off in the designated area in the back parking lot.
Reminders:
1.Bring a water bottle or container with a lid so that you can use the water fountains.
2.Immunizations are required by October 1st – that’s only 9 days from now.
3.Return any library books that you might have at home from last year.
4.School pictures are one week from tomorrow.
5.Order your yearbook by October 20th for the lowest price.
A few of you have been taking your school-issued Chromebooks outside before school and at lunch and using them. Keep them put away in your backpack because we’ve had a couple of them damaged while outside.
This is a reminder that especially with the social distancing situation we are in, there needs to be no tackling, wrestling, hugging, etc. This is starting to become an issue, especially outside before school and during lunch.

Virtual, blended, or non-enrolled students have to sign up for meals every week. Meals may be picked up at Louise Durham Elementary or Mena High School on Fridays between 1 and 2pm. SR. PICTURES MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST !!!!!!
Monday, September 21: Senior Picture Make-Up/Retakes Day with Prestige (approximately 75 Seniors still need their senior pictures taken). These will be in the MHS safe room, with the possibility of using the MMS safe room for picture prep.
Monday: September 28: MHS School Day Picture Day with Lifetouch. Grades 9, 10, 11, and Faculty. MHS Safe Room.
Tuesday, September 29: MMS School Picture Day with Lifetouch. Grades 6, 7, 8. and Faculty. MMS Safe Room.
Monday, October 12: Sports Picture Day for all Fall Sports, Cheer, Band and all Basketball teams.(grades 7-12). Per the AAA, we are not able to take group/team photos, so Lifetouch will be essentially "photo shopping" together a team/group photo of each of our teams and groups. They are our only resource to get team photos this year.
More info will be available as these dates draw closer & if there are any changes we will let you know.

County health units across Arkansas are experiencing a substantial increase in patient volume, resulting in the need to schedule appointments well in advance. The Mena School District would like to urge parents to schedule appointments for vaccinations. The deadline is October 1st
IMMUNIZATIONS Ark. Code Ann. § 6-18-702
(Grades K-12 public school students)
Requirement: Documentation must be provided verifying proof of immunizations for each student or proof that the student has received an exemption from the immunization requirements. If proof is not provided within 30 days of the student beginning school, the student must be excluded from being physically present at the school until documentation is provided. Students may access virtual or other remote options offered by the school.

to go by her room today to get more information.
III. Reminders:

IV. Reminder about ordering a yearbook: The lowest price is now through October 20. If you
order personalization, you can receive 4 free Icons. This is the only time you can receive
the free icons. Order forms are available from your ACHIEVE teacher or Mrs. Lunsford.
Your parents can find the order form on Facebook or our school website. You can also
order online at Jostens.com.
V. We’re starting to have an issue with trash outside during lunch. Be sure and throw your
trash away.

Today, September 17th, is Constitution Day commemorating the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution.
Students in Mr. Tommy Johnson's history classes at Mena MIddle School have been studying the Constitution. The students participated in discussions and exercises that emphasized the freedoms outlined in the Constitution. Today they each had the opportunity to sign a copy just like those thirty-nine men did on September 17, 1787,

II. Reminder: School pictures will take place on September 29 th . Once we receive the order
forms, we will distribute them.
III. If you were absent yesterday, your ACHIEVE teacher should have your mid-term grade
from yesterday.
IV. Please remember that you need to bring a bottle or container with a lid so that you can use
the water fountains that have been converted into bottle filling stations. Several of you are
going all day without drinking any water.
V. Reminder from Nurse Sherry: If you received a letter stating that you need an
immunization, please remind your parents that these immunizations are required by the
Arkansas Department of Health in order to attend school and are also a requirement for
participation in competitive activities such as athletics. You must either have your shot or
an appointment made by October 1 st , which is just two weeks from today.
VI. Reminders from Mrs. Brooks:
1) Please return any library book you may have from last year.
2) Feel free to email Mrs. Brooks or drop by the library and give her titles and authors of
books you would like her to look at ordering.

III. From Mrs. Brooks:
Because of how we ended the school year last March, there are quite a few library
books that were never returned. If you have a library book at home from last year,
please return it to the library. No late fees will be charged, we just want the books back.
Mrs. Brooks would like your input on ordering new books for the library. You can either
drop by the library or email her and let her know a title and author that you would
recommend.

Mena Cross Country competed at the Tom Stuthard Stampede on Tuesday. Logan Myers, Tre McMellon, Cooper Plunkett & Hudson Vacca medaled for Mena. The Bearcats will be back in action on 9/26 at the Today's Bank Mansfield Invitational.

Announcements for Tuesday, September 15 th
I. Mid-term grade reports will be given out tomorrow.
II. Students, this is a reminder that we are able to see everything you search for on your
school-owned device and your teachers and administrators get alerts for any searches that
are deemed inappropriate. Do not use your Chromebook for anything other than class-
related work.
III. School pictures are scheduled for two weeks from today. Picture forms will be given out
once we receive them. You are not required to purchase pictures, however, everyone will
have their picture taken for the yearbook and for photo ID cards.
IV. You may begin placing orders for a yearbook. You will get the cheapest price if you order
in the next few weeks. There are a couple of different methods for ordering:
1) Visit jostens.com
2) Pick up an order form from Mrs. Lunsford’s classroom.
