Announcements for Monday, September 14 th
I. Mid-term grade reports will be given out this Wednesday.
II. We are still seeing a few students getting off a bus in the morning without a mask. You
must wear a mask in order to attend school as per State requirements.
III. School pictures are scheduled for two weeks from tomorrow, Tuesday, September 29 th .
Picture forms will be given out once we receive them. You are not required to purchase
pictures, however, everyone will have their picture taken for the yearbook and for photo ID
cards.
IV. Reminder: If you received a letter about required immunizations, be sure and give that to
your parents. The Arkansas Department of Health requires you to have the immunizations
by October 1 st . The immunizations are required to attend school and to participate in
Athletics, Band, and Cheer.

Governor Asa Hutchinson conducted his daily update to media from UA Rich Mountain in Mena on Friday regarding Arkansas’s COVID-19 response.
This gave Mena Public School Superintendent Benny Weston an opportunity to speak to the governor in person about issues affecting MPS & the district’s start to the new school year.


Life savers for life savers! Life savers and cards from Mena Middle School FACS students are being delivered to local first responders to remember and honor first responders who lost their lives 9/11/2001.


Virtual, blended, or non-enrolled students have to sign up for meals every week. Meals may be picked up at Louise Durham Elementary or Mena High School on Fridays between 1 and 2pm. Saturday is National Grandparent's Day. Normally Holly Harshman Elementary would host Grandparent's Read Week and grandparents would be invited into the library to read to their grandchildren each day during their library time. Unfortunately, this year, we will not be able to have Grandparent's Read Week, so we are asking all MPS patrons to submit pictures of grandparents reading to their grandchildren.

Announcements for Thursday, September 10 th
I. From our school Resource Officer, Deputy Wagner: Several Middle School students are
walking across the bus lanes after school to get into a vehicle in the football field parking
lot. If you are a car rider, your parent MUST pick you up in the designated car-rider line.
This is a safety issue. Starting next week, the Deputy will begin talking with anyone who is
continuing to do this.
II. From Nurse Sherry: Immunizations notices have been given out. If you received one,
make sure you give it to your parents. Deadline for immunizations or having an
appointment for immunizations is Oct 1. These are required by the Arkansas Department
of health for students to remain in school or to participate in extracurricular activities such
as band, athletics, and cheer.
III. If you would like to order a letterman jacket for athletics, band, cheer, or choir, there are a
few forms in the front office. If we run out of forms you can visit www.ssrjackets.com
** Orders must be placed by September 23 rd
IV. Reminders:
Get all required paperwork signed and turned in by tomorrow.
Mid-term progress reports will be given out next week.
V. If you bring your own ball from home to use at lunch, please write your name on it in ink.
VI. If you take a four-square ball outside, please do not kick them. Kicking them causes them
to form swells and they become unusable.
VII. Lunchtime Weather: There is a good chance that we will be inside today for lunch.
You may eat in the Cafeteria, Library, or at one of the tables located in the main hallway.
Once you’ve eaten, move to your grade-level hallway and be seated. Once you are in the
hallway, you may use your phone / electronic device.

Attention Mena High School and Middle School Lamb and Goat Exhibitors: Lamb and Goat exhibitors will need to call and schedule an appointment with a local vet to get health papers before leaving for AYE. This needs to be done before the 2nd of October!


Thanks to some generous donors, Mrs. Chaney’s 8th grade literacy enjoyed a mask break while reading outside today in their new lawn chairs. It is a great day to be a Bearcat!

I. There are still a small number of students who still need to turn in either part or all of their
required paperwork. Please get that turned in asap.
II. Safety Reminder: Unless you have been given special permission from the Principal, you
are not allowed to be dropped off at the front of the school in the mornings. Use the
designated car rider drop-off area.
III. Two bragging points!! You have all been doing a great job with the mask requirements and
taking care of your breakfast and lunch trash. Thank you all for stepping up and doing the
right thing!!
IV. One week from today, Wednesday, September 16 th , is mid-term for the 1 st grading quarter.
Mid-term grade reports will be given out. So, be sure to stay on top of your assignments
and check with your teachers if you have any missing work.

Dear Parents,
We would like to thank you for participating in our virtual/blended meal service.
On Thursday Sept. 3, USDA announced that they were extending the waiver to feed using the Seamless Summer Option through Dec. 31, 2020. This means that all meals will be served for free to all children 18 and under.
We will still need you to fill out your free and reduced application for students. T
