Announcements for Wednesday, December 18th Reminders: 7th and 8th grade Spelling Bee participants will meet in Mrs. Breedlove’s or Mrs. Chaney’s room after these announcements. 6th period Choir students that are not caroling will go to the MMS Choir Room instead of the high school. Tomorrow: Jr High basketball against Malvern at Rackley Gymnasium starting with the 7th grade Lady Cats at 4:30. Students, check the lost and found for you coats and other items so that you won’t be without them over Christmas break. This Friday will be “Festive Friday” at MMS. All students and faculty are invited to wear your silly or gaudy Christmas sweaters or shirts. From Mrs. Rose: As a rule schedules do not change at semester; however, if you have a concern about your schedule and need to speak to Mrs. Rose you may sign up for a visit on the clip-board outside her office. Also: 8th Grade girls Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Gann have extended the GOP application deadline to tomorrow. If you are still interested in going, get your paper application to Mrs. Rose and your rough draft essay's email to her. Lunchtime Weather: The current temperature is 48 and should be near 50 at lunch, so we will be going outside today. The Mena School Board conducted their December meeting at the Administration Building Tuesday Night. Superintendent Benny Weston's report consisted of information on the recent Thanksgiving & Christmas meals served at each cafeteria. Almost 1200 meals were served to parents this year. The board next accepted a bid on workmans compensation insurance insurance from the Arkansas School Board Association. The annual premium is $24,442.00. Approval was also given to the 2020 Master Plan, Student transfers, the annual stipend list & the financial report. One personnel item was addressed at the conclusion of the meeting. The board accepted the resignation of Piet Fieldman.

Announcements for Thursday, December 12th Reminders: EAST students participating in today’s Veteran’s program will go to Lunch “A” and catch the bus at 11:45. BADD Club will have a meeting on tomorrow. MMS & MHS bands will have their Christmas concerts tonight, 7:00 pm, at the PAC. 6th grade ETS students will be meeting next Tuesday during ACHIEVE. 6th grade Spelling Bee participants will be meeting in Mrs. Dollar’s room on Monday. Girls of Promise applications and essay rough drafts are due to Mrs. Rose tomorrow. Mrs. Moore would like to remind all GT students that will be participating in tomorrow’s Geography Bee to remember to bring a lunch tomorrow. FBLA members will be having their Christmas party tomorrow during ACHIEVE. Several of our students are in the play, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, put on by the Junior Ouachita Little Theater (JOLT). The play will be performed at the OLT 7:30 Friday, 7:30 Saturday and 2:30 Sunday afternoon. There will be a coat drive in front of Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium this Saturday, December 14th. This is the first annual Coat the Cold event. They will be collecting new and gently used coats, jackets, hoodies, gloves, scarves, and hats. All gently used items will be laundered before disbursement. All items that are received as a donation will be distributed throughout the local schools for children in need, the remaining items will be donated to those in need, as needed.

Sherry Newman, Kim DePriest, Superintendent Benny Weston, Paulette Sherrer, and Suzanne Bentley choose to annually donate to the student fund at Christmas time. The Mena School District "Feed A Bearcat" Program aims to provide wrap around services to our students in need. These services are offered on an individual basis as needs are identified and include the backpack food program, personal hygiene items, clothing, school supplies, extra-curricular student expenses, and assistance with lunch account balances. Tonight is the MMS Winter Dance from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The cost is $5, Concession stand will be open. Make sure your parents know that the dance ends at 8:00 so that they will be here to pick you up. Song requests are due to Mrs. Rose by noon today. The MMS and MHS Bands’ Christmas Concert is Thursday, 7:00 pm, at the PAC. Announcements for Monday, December 9th 8th grade ETS students will be meeting in the Cafeteria right after these announcements. The Student Council will be meeting with Mr. Sherrer tomorrow during ACHIEVE. The BADD Club will have a meeting this Friday in Mrs. Rose’s office. There are only 2 weeks remaining in the semester. Remember that if your last day of school is going to be before December 20th, a parent must call either myself or Mr. Sherrer for approval, so that your absences will be excused. We will have our MMS Christmas Dance next tomorrow evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The cost is $5, concession stand will be open. Make sure your parents know that the dance ends at 8:00 so that they will be here to pick you up. You may make song requests to Mrs. Rose. You must write down your name, the song title, and the name of the artist and have it turned in to Mrs. Rose by noon tomorrow. The MMS bands, along with the High School Jazz Band and the MHS concert band will perform their annual Christmas concert this Thursday, 7:00 pm, at the PAC.
