Reminders:
EAST students participating in today’s Veteran’s program will go to Lunch “A” and catch the bus at 11:45.
BADD Club will have a meeting on tomorrow.
MMS & MHS bands will have their Christmas concerts tonight, 7:00 pm, at the PAC.
6th grade ETS students will be meeting next Tuesday during ACHIEVE.
6th grade Spelling Bee participants will be meeting in Mrs. Dollar’s room on Monday.
Girls of Promise applications and essay rough drafts are due to Mrs. Rose tomorrow.
Mrs. Moore would like to remind all GT students that will be participating in tomorrow’s Geography Bee to remember to bring a lunch tomorrow.
FBLA members will be having their Christmas party tomorrow during ACHIEVE.
Several of our students are in the play, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, put on by the Junior Ouachita Little Theater (JOLT). The play will be performed at the OLT 7:30 Friday, 7:30 Saturday and 2:30 Sunday afternoon.

There will be a coat drive in front of Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium this Saturday, December 14th. This is the first annual Coat the Cold event. They will be collecting new and gently used coats, jackets, hoodies, gloves, scarves, and hats. All gently used items will be laundered before disbursement. All items that are received as a donation will be distributed throughout the local schools for children in need, the remaining items will be donated to those in need, as needed.

The Administration Office of Mena Public Schools would like to thank the individuals and community organizations who are making contributions this holiday season to "Feed A Bearcat".
Sherry Newman, Kim DePriest, Superintendent Benny Weston, Paulette Sherrer, and Suzanne Bentley choose to annually donate to the student fund at Christmas time.
The Mena School District "Feed A Bearcat" Program aims to provide wrap around services to our students in need. These services are offered on an individual basis as needs are identified and include the backpack food program, personal hygiene items, clothing, school supplies, extra-curricular student expenses, and assistance with lunch account balances. The Mena School District appreciates the generosity of our patrons who are able to donate items or monetary gifts to our students through this endeavor to meet our local needs. If you, your organization, or your business would like to donate please call 479-394-1710 or visit our offices at 501 Hickory Avenue.

Reminders:
EAST students participating in tomorrow’s Veteran’s program. You must have your permission slips to Mrs. Lunsford today. Tomorrow, you will eat during Lunch “A” and load the bus at 11:45.

FBLA Spring Conference dues have to be turned in to Mrs. Sikes today. Also, Mrs. Sikes needs to see all FBLA members after these announcements.

Announcements for Tuesday, December 10th
From Mrs. Lunsford: EAST students – if your ACHIEVE teacher approves it, you can go to the Choir room right after these announcements to practice for the Veteran’s activity. Also, remember that you must have your permission slip signed and turned in to her by tomorrow. On Thursday, you will eat during Lunch “A” and load the bus at 11:45.
If you are a teacher’s aide, you will have a group photo made today after these announcements.
The BADD Club will have a meeting this Friday in Mrs. Rose’s office.
Tonight is the MMS Winter Dance from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The cost is $5, Concession stand will be open. Make sure your parents know that the dance ends at 8:00 so that they will be here to pick you up. Song requests are due to Mrs. Rose by noon today.
The MMS and MHS Bands’ Christmas Concert is Thursday, 7:00 pm, at the PAC.
Lunchtime Weather: The current temperature is 37 degrees and is not expected to get above 40 degrees by lunchtime. You are allowed to go outside as usual. Mrs. Rose will stay in the building for those of you that wish to remain inside.

Remember if your student wants to be a Bearcat the enrollment window for the second semester is now open. Forms can be requested and completed at the district you are currently attending. Mena School District classes will begin on Monday, January 6th 2020. For more information call 479-394-1710.

The Jr. Ladycats & Bearcats played at Arkadelphia Monday. The Jr. jv girls won 20-12, the Jr. Girls won 32-23 & the Jr. Boys lost 37-41. Mena will play next on Monday 12/6 at Cossatot.

8th grade ETS students will be meeting in the Cafeteria right after these announcements.
The Student Council will be meeting with Mr. Sherrer tomorrow during ACHIEVE.
The BADD Club will have a meeting this Friday in Mrs. Rose’s office.
There are only 2 weeks remaining in the semester. Remember that if your last day of school is going to be before December 20th, a parent must call either myself or Mr. Sherrer for approval, so that your absences will be excused.
We will have our MMS Christmas Dance next tomorrow evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The cost is $5, concession stand will be open. Make sure your parents know that the dance ends at 8:00 so that they will be here to pick you up. You may make song requests to Mrs. Rose. You must write down your name, the song title, and the name of the artist and have it turned in to Mrs. Rose by noon tomorrow.
The MMS bands, along with the High School Jazz Band and the MHS concert band will perform their annual Christmas concert this Thursday, 7:00 pm, at the PAC.

Time spent in the service of others is time well spent. Middle school Leadership student Gia spent her Saturday morning laying wreaths for Veterans at Pinecrest cemetery.
Our menu's had Christmas Dinner on the wrong week The actual dates will be Louise Durham Elementary / Mena Middle School on Wednesday, December 11th. Holly Harshman Elementary / Mena High School on Thursday, December the 12th. Please share & spread the word!

The 4th-8th grade GT students will be participating in the Geography Bee next Friday, December 13 at the PAC. The 4th-5th grade will begin at 8:30 a.m, and the 6th-8th grade students who are participating will follow at approximately 9:30- 9:45.

This Week’s Events:
Tonight –
MMS & MHS Choirs will present their Christmas concerts at the MHS PAC, starting at 7:00 pm
The finals of the Union Bank Basketball Tournament are tonight and both Mena teams are in the finals. The Jr High Lady Cats will tip off at 5:00 followed by the Jr High Bearcats.
Saturday: The annual City Christmas Festival will take place. Main Street Christmas Parade will begin at 6:00, followed by the activities in Janssen Park, including a Rockin’ Christmas concert, fireworks, and the lighting of the park.
Teacher’s Aides will have a group photo taken next Tuesday.
From Ms. Taylor: Choir members will rehearse today in the PAC 6th and 7th periods. Sixth grade choir members come to the PAC after 5th period.
Students, our last day of the semester is Friday, December 20th. If your family is planning a trip and you will be leaving for Christmas break before the 20th, your parents must contact either myself or Mr. Sherrer for approval, otherwise, your absences will be unexcused and you may get zeros on any missed work or semester tests. Mr. Sherrer sent an email to all students regarding this.
