
MMS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Wednesday, September 8 th
I. Reminder: Parent / Teacher Conferences and your first mid-term grades are one week from today. Under our current situation, conferences will not be held on campus. Parents will be receiving a phone call from teachers that evening to discuss your progress and
grades.
II. MMS Dance: We plan to hold our dance next Tuesday evening (weather permitting). If you have a song request, write the song title and your name on a sheet of paper and turn it in to
Mrs. Rose this week.
III. From Mrs. Sikes: Reminder: Deadline to join FBLA and attend the Fall Leadership Conference is this Friday, September 10. All forms and money must be turned in to Mrs. Sikes by the end of the week.
IV. From Mrs. Sims: Quiz Bowl practice will begin next week during ACHIEVE. 6 th grade Quiz Bowl will practice on Mondays, 7 th / 8 th grade will practice on Tuesdays. Practice will take place in the Conference room next to Mrs. Rose’s office. On those days, stay in your ACHIEVE class until the end of announcements.
V. You have probably noticed that we are now offering a 2 nd chance breakfast between 1 st period and ACHIEVE. You do need to know that if you already had a school breakfast earlier in the morning, you will be charged for getting another one from the cart. The cart is located outside the front office.

Mena Sr. Volleyball played Malvern at the Union Bank Center on Tuesday. The score was 25-21, 25-23 & 25-5. The Ladycats improve to 4-0 & will plat at Camden Fairview on Thursday.

The Jr. Ladycats defeated Malvern on Thursday at the Union Bank Center. The score was 25-18 & 25-20. Mena is now 4-0 on the season & will play at Camden Fairview on Thursday !

Mena High School would like to thank The Tire Shop for sponsoring a fun filled evening at Suzy Q’s on Tuesday, September 21st to kick off the 2021 Homecoming festivities! It will include ice cream and games and is FREE to all MHS students! Just bring your student ID!


Mena Coaches select #33, Jayden Felix, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Player of the Week vs. Clarksville.
Jayden is a Junior running back / linebacker for the Bearcats. He had 1 receiving touchdown and 1 rushing
touchdown with over 100 all- purpose yards on offense and 2 tackles for loss, defensively. His efforts helped lead the
Bearcats to a comfortable 38-14 victory over the Panthers. Mena’s off to a great start, at 2-0 for the year!
Jayden is the son of Walter and Misty Felix and is one of eight children, having 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
His hobbies are primarily football, off season conditioning, and X-Box games. After graduation, Jayden hopes
to continue to play football at the college level, as he pursues a degree in Accounting.
This week, Mena will travel to Hot Springs to take on the Hot Springs High Trojans, who currently stand at 1-1 for the season.
Mena lost a close game to the Trojans last year and Jayden and the Bearcats will be up for a little payback come Friday night.

Sydney Welch with the University of Central Arkansas is on the Mena High School Campus today visiting with students & answering any questions they have about UCA.


Tuesday, September 7th
Mena Cross Country will compete in their first meet of the season at the Tom Stuthard Stampede in Acorn starting at 3:30pm.
Jr. & Sr. Volleyball will host Malvern at the Union Bank Center beginning at 4:00pm.


If you are planning to attend the Mena football game at Hot Springs on September 10th please be aware that tickets will be sold online only. No tickets will be sold at the gates. Tickets may be printed or downloaded on a phone and scanned in at the gate.

Today is National Read a Book Day !!!!


The Bearcats improved to 2-0 with a dominant 34-14 win over Clarksville on Friday at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. Mena will be on the road at Hot Springs next week.. GO BEARCATS !!!

Mrs. Ford's and Mrs. White's third-grade classes at HHE enjoyed a "Book Tasting" today. Students were given the opportunity to sample some juicy reads. They were introduced to different authors, genres, and series. We love reading!


MHS/MMS Choir Teacher Lana Coogan & MMS Principal Todd Coogan educated her students in the art of vocal performance with guitar accompaniment on Friday.

Bridgett Martin, with the Polk County Extension Office, spoke to 5th graders at Holly Harshman Elementary on Friday about the importance of hydration. She also had a parting gift for the students which they gladly accepted.. Thanks Mrs. Martin !!!!
