Mena AE students continued their volunteer work this week at CMA helping to get the campgrounds ready for bike rally week. Great work guys, thank you!!


Diamond Bank (Mena) has partnered with Mena Newspapers, Inc. during football season to highlight a Player of the Week. Congratulations to Caleb Peters, wide receiver/defensive back, on earning the Week 0 Diamond Bank Player of the Week honor!

MMS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thursday, September 2 nd
I. Reminder: Monday is Labor Day and there will be no school.
II. Several of you have been taking off your shoes while outside at lunch. Do not take off your shoes. There is always a chance of stepping on an old nail, broken glass, or a stinging insect.
III. MMS Band Students: Beginning on Monday, you are not allowed to hang out in the Band Room in the mornings before school. You can still drop off your instrument but then you must leave the Band Room and either go to breakfast or go outside with the rest of the
students.
IV. From Mrs. Rose: The 6th grade Getting to Know You activity prize winners please stop by her office between classes to claim your prize. Winners are: Paeyton Hostetler, Landon Bush, Jimi Roberts, Gabruielle Autrey, Hailey Tosta, Samual Hopper, Gavin Crawford, Sergio Maldanand, Abbagail Cude and Beau Rodgers
V. Tomorrow we will do a random drawing for a prize. The prize will be a free pass to all of the dances we hope to have this year. There will be one winner from each grade. To be eligible, you must have turned in all required paperwork, have missed no days of school,
and have had no discipline write-ups.

This year we are happy to announce we are able to provide you with after school library hours and tutoring. The schedule for this is:
Monday: Mrs. Hooker 3:30 to 7 pm
Tuesday: Mrs. Hoyle or Ms. Catlett 3:30 to 7 pm
Wednesday: Ms. Ashcraft 3:30 to 6 pm
Thursday: Mrs. Hoyle or Ms. Catlett 3:30 to 7 pm
Saturday: Mrs. Hoyle or Ms. Catlett 9:00 to 12:00
This is time that you can use to study, gather for a group meeting, use our new makerspace, or get help with assignments.
If you sign up for it before the end of school, snacks will be provided. Saturday tutoring must be signed up for by Friday, the google form can be found in your “Class Of…” Google Classroom.
Math tutoring will be each morning from 7:15-8:00, and each Monday- Wednesday after school til 4:15.
Ms. Hendrix will be tutoring after school on Thursdays til 5:15.
If you would like to be in the school play, The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood, come by Ms. Kropp’s room 201 and pick up an audition paper. The play is open to all MHS students. Auditions will be next week on Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 and Thursday from 4-6 in the MHS PAC.

Homecoming is on the horizon and students should be ready to dance! This year, we will host the first annual Homecoming Semi-Formal Dance. Dress is semi-formal and tickets must be purchased in advance. More information on ticket sales coming soon! Questions should be directed to Mrs. Ashcraft, Mrs. Hobson or Mrs. Hughes.
Mena High School Student Council is selling the official 2021 Homecoming Tee this year! The cost will be $12 per shirt and we have youth sizes Small-Large and adult sizes Small-6X available for order! If you would like to order please see Ms.Hobson and order no later than Friday, September 10th. Shirts will be delivered on Monday, September 20th.

The Fall FBLA District Leadership Conference will be held in Fort Smith on Monday, October 4th. Before you are able to go to the conference….YOU MUST JOIN!!! Membership dues are $20 and there is a $20 registration fee to attend the fall conference. See Mrs. Torix to pay dues and register for the conference! Our first meeting will be Friday, September 10th and the deadline for conference registration is Wednesday, September 15th.
The Mena High School Cheerleading team is doing a “Paint the Paw” fundraiser. Get your parking spot painted with your name and graduation year for $25! Deadline to order your parking spot is this Friday, September 3rd! See Coach Hughes in room 315 for details or to purchase your Paw.
The FFA Organization is now accepting new members to join! There will be a meeting on September 10th in the Ag Building during Enrichment, this will be the first meeting of the year and it is encouraged for new members or interested students to attend. Dues are $17 and are encouraged to be paid as soon as possible. WE would love to see you there, and get to know you!
Students, as we work toward keeping everyone healthy and safe here at Mena High School, please do not come to school with Flu like or COVID-like symptoms.
-Positive COVID cases will have to ISOLATE for 10 days before returning to school
-IF you wear a mask correctly and have been identified as a Close Contact, you will not have to quarantine.
-If not wearing a mask, and you have been identified as a Close Contact, you will have to quarantine for 7-10 days if you have NOT been vaccinated.
Students, you have the opportunity to be the teacher each Friday during Lunch A and Lunch B. Ms. Labertew will be set up in the cafeteria each Friday during lunch, ready for you to teach her a new skill or a trick. Once you show her how it’s done, she will attempt to perform it as well. Whether it’s juggling, roping, a card trick, or even dance moves, Ms. Labertew is ready for you to teach her something new. Look for her in the cafeteria each Friday during lunch for the “Teach Me How To…” events.


Our AMAZING librarian, Tiffany Williams, came to see Mrs. Bentley's Super Second Graders to model how to do a Book Talk. We’ve started the process, and they are doing so great
