Mrs. Sikes's 6th Grade Keyboarding classes at Mena Middle School had the opportunity to dig into the computer this week and learn more about the hardware. They opened the computer case, disconnected the main components from the motherboard, and removed them. Finally they put it all back together to make it run. It was a fun day of learning!


The Mena Jr. High basketball teams played at Nashville Thursday. The JV Ladycats won 24-10 & the
Varsity Ladycats won 30-20. The Jr. Bearcats lost in overtime 34-37.


Mena’s Benny Weston was recently recognized as Superintendent of the year and gave his acceptance speech and charge to the audience at the recent AAEA 2020 Superintendent Symposium. Closing the event was Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson who spoke to the state superintendents.


Friday, Jan 31 is the last date to order personalized Middle School yearbooks.
The last date to order a plain Yearbook is February 28.

A limited number of Yearbooks will be for sale at school after March 1. The price will increase. They will be available first come, first serve.

Be sure to order your 2020 MHS Yearbook before it’s too late. The final deadline to order a yearbook will be January 31st. Yearbooks are $60, and can be ordered through Mr. Philpot’s room 205 or online through the Jostens yearbook website.
Please continue to recycle your aluminum cans in the red recycling trash cans around campus, but please do not put any other forms of trash or plastics in these red cans.
Any students who still need to turn in their Cross Country uniforms, please take them to Coach Peters by the end of this week.
The Senior Winter Formal will be held Saturday evening, February 1, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. at Grace Bible Church. Tickets will be $10 for one person, or $15 for a senior and their guest. Seniors may invite one person between the ages of 9th grade and 21 years old. Tickets may be purchased in advance through Mrs. Hobson’s room.
Seniors: If you did not order your Cap & Gown when Herff Jones was here, please go by and see Mrs. Jennifer. If you do not order by March 1st the cost goes up from $45 to $55.
Special Olympic Polar Plunge is scheduled for February 13 at 11:30 in the Student Parking Lot. Stop by Room 214 and pick up your Plunge Form and get more information on how to be involved...Rumor has it that Coach Wright and Coach Lyle will plunge if their girls can raise $1000.00….Let’s help the girls make this possible!!!!
The tryout signup sheets for the 2020-2021 Cheerleading Team and Competition Team, and Mascot are in the office. Please see Coach Hughes in room 315 for any questions about tryouts or cheer. There will be a MANDATORY parent meeting on February 26th for ALL candidates.

Bearcat Football Cup Fundraiser Update from Coach Bentley!
Update from our fundraising company on the cups: they should be in around the first of February. With Christmas Break and the new year the orders are taking slightly longer than usual. Thank you for your patience and support of Bearcat football!


Issues with the phone lines that service Mena High School, Mena MIddle School & Holly Harshman Elementary continue this morning. Service has been spotty & technicians continue to chase the problem. Your patience is appreciated.


A rough night for Mena basketball Tuesday at Bauxite. The Ladycats lost by a score of 28-31 & the Bearcats lost an even closer game 40-41. Mena will host Nashville on Friday at the Union Bank Center.

It was a good night for Mena Basketball Monday when they hosted Bauxite. The 7th Grade Bearcats lost the opener 13-32 But Mena won the next four games. Including a 24-3 win by the JV Jr. Girls. A 20-13 victory By the JV Jr. Boys. A 19-16 win by the Jr. Ladycats & a 42-29 win by the Jr. Bearcats. The Mena Jr. Teams play next on Thursday 1/16/20 at Nashville... GO BEARCATS!
