Due to the dangerous weather conditions that appear to be certain, the Mena Public Schools will take an AMI day on Thursday, February 3rd.. A decision about whether or not to have school Friday will be made on Thursday.

Mrs. Wilson's Foundations of Teaching and Methods of Teaching classes at Mena High School recently participated in the virtual Educators Rising Conference. Members in attendance included (L to R) Jocelyn Hernandez, Rebekah Ogden, Haylie Harmon, Sara Dozier, Haley Fairless, Cloey Massey, Danielle Hill, and Emily Leonard. The featured speakers included Stacey McAdoo, former Teacher of the Year, Tyler Tarver from Tarver Academy, Johnny Key, Commissioner of Education, and Ashanti Branch, an internationally known speaker and motivator. Educators Rising is a career and technical student organization that provides leadership opportunities and opportunities to attend State and National Conferences where members, teacher leaders, and educators come together to showcase the skills they have gained in their education and training programs. Educators Rising is a community-based movement, in which local chapters feed teacher preparation institutes of higher education with the support of State Department of Education and local funders and foundations. These entities come together to provide a clear pathway to increase teacher diversity and teacher quality.


GRAYSON FAIRLESS, a senior at Mena High School, has been selected to play in the 2022 Arkansas Activities Association All-Star Volleyball Game. The game is scheduled for June 24th in Conway. Grayson has accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Ouachita Baptist University.

Congratulations to Melissa Puckett for receiving the Mena High School Teacher of Month Award. This teacher is chosen by all students at MHS. It was stated that Mrs. Puckett listens to her students, is helpful, respectful, caring, and makes learning fun. She creates an amazing learning environment and students don’t feel stressed while in her class. Mrs. Puckett will receive a certificate and a cupcake for Sassafras Bakehouse.

We are starting a new tradition here at Mena High School this year called "King of Hearts" sponsored by the student council. The senior class voted in 10 senior boys to represent them on the court and the the whole student body will vote to select the king. A Pep Rally is planned on Tuesday, February 1st where the king will be announced. The guys will be dressed in business casual for the pep rally and will be escorted by the Ladycats basketball team. Congratulations to Mena High School senior LEXI WILLIAMS ! Lexi is the newest member of the Ouachita Baptist University Band!! She received a scholarship in the amount of $3000 a year to play at OBU. GO TIGERS! GO BEARCATS !
